Last week we had a significant flood after the water line feeding our fridge burst while we were away for the weekend. We called out insurance company, who sent out a property restoration company.. The property restoration people said they would need to cut out significant part of our walls (drywall), rip out our carpet and likely replace our lower kitchen cabinets (particle board). They hauled away a lot of damaged stuff and set up huge fans for 4 days to dry out the walls and floor and ripped up the carpet. We were told it was contaminated as the water was exposed to the kitty litter in the basement. We are now being told that the walls (which were soaking wet) have been dried out and do not need to be replaced, same with the kitchen cabinets. There appears to be some swelling at the bottom of our kitchen cabinets, but we were told this was cosmetic and the kick plates would cover it. Our belongings were also returned to us 5 days later, some of it (hockey cards etc.) was still wet. The project manager is coming in a couple of days to have us choose replacement carpet and other flooring for the basement. Everything I’ve read online states that once drywall and particle board gets wet, the structural integrity is damaged. So I’m confused about the message we are getting from the restoration company and also confused about why our contaminated"" belongings have now been returned to us. All the extractions including the root tips have to be done during one visit, which necessitates the use of IV sedation. My general dentist cannot perform any of this work. Anthem Blue Cross Dental Net denied the original pre-authorization request, and subsequent appeal stating that my general dentist can perform the services being referred. Which is absolutely not the case. I even spoke with a customer service rep who indicated that the extraction of residual root tips is definitely a referable service and it clearly states that in their Dental Net Provider Contract. She has no explanation for why the appeal was denied. My primary care dentist has even provided Anthem Blue Cross Dental Net with his specific reasons for referring this work to an oral surgeon and I still can’t get anyone at Anthem Blue Cross to re-evaluate the original denial and the appeal and authorize the necessary work. I have filed a complaint with the California Department of Insurance, although I don’t hold out much hope for any results from that effort. HELP… what are my options? Who can I contact? Thanks"

I make 12k a year i tried to apply for health insurance on the Obama care website. It said the only government insurance i MIGHT be eligible for is Medicaid and it gave me the address for the welfare building in my area…the problem with that our welfare office no Longer make appointments people have to show up between 7am and 3pm on Mondays and Thursdays and wait to maybe be seen..i tried go do it once showed up at 7 waited until 11 just just to be told theres to many people to get through for the day and I’d need to come back another time. My husband and I bought a beautiful gold ford escape two years ago and, since we are still making payments on it, it is fully covered by Geico. Last winter, two separate events occured: 1. While driving down the highway, our kayak partially fell off top of our SUV and caused several dents in side and top of body before we were able to stop. 2. We had an ice storm in our area a few months after this accident and someone hit us and didn’t leave a note. It is still a mystery what happened, but we found a big puncture hole in our bumper..and we think it may have been caused from the side of the bumper from a bus or something..as we were on a busline. So….the damage by both accidents is cosmetic and hasn’t interfered with driving the car. It just doesn’t look very good. We put off doing anything about this because we couldn’t afford deductible AND didn’t want our rate to go up. But we are really tired of looking at the damage. Our ded is $1000 too, which is more than we can afford. So..my questions are: 1. Is it too late to file a claim? 2. Please read the entire post before replying. I have heard many conflicting stories. Some people say that they automatically drug test newborns if the mother is on medicaid. The impact was pretty severe, but her injuries were luckily minor. Although she was in pain for a few weeks after the accident, she basically got some soft tissue strain on her right arm and towards her upper back and neck. Immediately after the accident, paramedics took her to E.R. on a backboard. The E.R. did not take any x-rays but prescribed her with pain pills and gave her a tetanus shot for the superficial glass cuts. However, she had to go through the urgent care with a total of 4 visits (follow ups) and also through 5 sessions of physical therapy. She also missed several days at work(about 4-5 days) after the accident. When the insurance adjuster finally had a quote and mention the pain and suffering compensation, she acknowledged the traumatic effect of the accident(as a result of the recklessness of the driver at fault) and the pain she went through and such…but it seemed very low ball. The settlement for pain and suffering alone was only $2,500. It was a real shock for my friend considering everything from the pain, inconvenience, the mental anguish, etc. She neither accepted it or denied yet. What are the best ways to come back at this adjuster in an effort to get her to raise the compensation for pain and suffering….whether it be a letter of demand and/or verbally countering the adjuster? My friend was expecting a minimum of $6500, to a max of $10,000 for pain and suffering only(aside from medical bills and wage loss)… thanks."

Hi guys, so here is my situation. someone rear ended me when I was yielding to other cars. The police came and gave her a ticket and he made us exchange information because he said the damage to my car doesnt look like its over $1500(thats the only time they issue a police report. I live in virginia).I hit my head and back pretty bad so I have been experiencing severe back pains and minor headaches. I have been seeing a chiropractor and putting all the bills on my health insurance. I got an email from my health insurance where they sent me a form for me to sign saying i will reimburse them from any settlement for health coverage that I get from the other person’s auto insurance company. I havent signed/sent the paper back to them yet. Do I really have to reimburse my health insurance company??? the thing about it is, I am graduate student doing research(phd) so my insurance is fully paid for my the NIH at the beginning of the school year(so i personally dont make any monthly payments from my paycheck or anything).
